Stem Cells, Botox Replacement & Instant Face Lifts at Home
“Youthful skin stem cells in a tube, Face lifts in a jar, Botox in a cream”, and YOU REALLY BELIEVE THIS?
This week Proctor & Gamble got into trouble with the United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for claims about its new Olay Regenerist skin cream that the regulatory body felt could not be substantiated. On television commercials in the USA, there are exaggerated claims for Olay Regenerist skin cream containing pentapeptides with a voice-over stating that a study presented at the World Congress of Dermatology showed that the ingredients are effective in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Scientific evidence does not show that pentapeptides are effective at reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, according to an ASA adjudication.
There is plenty of good science and real work being done in the labs to produce beneficial skin care products to reduce the effects of aging and improve the appearance of your complexion. The mass produced drug store variety of skin care products are more interested in packaging and slick advertising than effectiveness.
One of the fundamental causes of fine lines and wrinkles on your face is sugar. We now know that between 40 and 50% of skin aging is caused by glycation – the damage directly resulting from eating sugar. It’s one of the worst skin agers; more than sun, more than the environment. This year you will see new active ingredients that promise to slow down skin aging by inhibiting glycation in collagen. Glycation comes to the surface in skin when sugar attaches itself to collagen making skin stiff and inflexible. Inhibiting glycation will reduce signs of skin aging.
ARRESTAGE Laboratories and many other small European formulators of high end and prestige cosmeceuticals, are releasing products that inhibit the glycation of collagen and therefore improve the flexibility of the skin.
Topicals with the right balance of active ingredients and pH for anti-aging are very important for younger looking skin. In all my lectures I stress the benefits of “Combination Treatment Protocols” and in this case, diet and lifestyle changes will exponentially increase the effectiveness of these new skin care products.
Stay away from refined sugar and high-fructose corn syrup type products. I have found that eating a high protein diet helps stave off sugar cravings. I have also found that if you cut down on the sugar the cravings go away after a week or so. Remember, it’s not you that’s craving the sugar it’s all the little “bad bacteria” that you’ve built up in your gut that are clamoring for it. Eating plain yoghurt (not the flavored sugary variety) will help balance the bacteria in your gut so you can get back to normal. You will look better AND feel better.
