Moisturizing Your Skin with Twice the Effectiveness

The condition of dry skin can be a result of environment, aging, diet and heredity, or a combination of all these factors. The outer most layer of the skin is the protective barrier for the underlying tissue and called the stratum corneum. Water holding is a function of this protective barrier of the tissue. One way to improve hydration of dry skin would be to improve the skin function on the outer layer in dry skin by increasing ceramide (lipid molecules) levels in the stratum corneum, in the epidermis and in keratinocytes.

ARRESTAGE Laboratories has a new phytoceutical agent in it’s latest ultra-moisturizing formulas, that has demonstrated a beneficial effect on elevating the capabilities water holding within the cells of the stratum corneum. Altering the biosynthesis of some cellular components of the skin’s outer barrier is just the beginning. Using liposomes formed with nanotechnological crème bases, ARRESTAGE has collagen remodeling actives that penetrates the stratum corneum and holds additional water molecules as it bonds deeper into the tissue.

Most moisturizers have a shortened lifespan as they evaporate while they cling to the skin. The molecular weight of the compounds used in skincare products are more designed to seek penetration levels and only find their way to layers of compatibility that match up with similar cellular properties. That challenge is not only permeability of the layers, it is how much time the active ingredients have to bond to either water or fat. How have the newest moisturizing formulas met this challenge? Zwitterionic polymers used in the formation of nanoparticals will help some active ingredients bond with the properties of the cells water and lipid (fat) contents.

To be twice as effective in relieving dry skin your moisturizer from ARRESTAGE Laboratories will be working on both fronts of improving the skins barrier to hold water as well as bonding the active ingredients to the underlying cellular matrix.

2013 Newest Skin Care Ingredients from the Sea

Algae are well known to have effective anti-ageing properties. Marine algae consist of nearly 200 different strains. The Earth is made up of more than 70% water, so it comes as follows that biochemists are searching for new sources of ingredients from oceans and fresh water sources. Arrestage Laboratories has found that when the right combination of algae extracts are mixed together using the correct molecular weight form, it results in a biological profile that forms an ingredient which acts as a superior anti-ageing product.

Herbalists have used these ingredients in Asia centuries ago, and to this day Asian consumers are aware of the natural benefits, providing a thriving audience for a marine algae based products that now are embraced by consumers worldwide. Arrestage Laboratories is just one prestige cosmeceutical company that has a line of marine-derived actives. Successful skin care launches, including Elemis (The Steiner Group), La Prairie (Beiersdorf) and Crème de la Mer (Estée Lauder) and other well known brands recently have also focused on algae.

Arrestage has a cream using sea fennel which enhances skin regeneration and improves wrinkled skin prone to excessive pigmentation. Other products in Arrestage’s personalized line of anti-aging serums use marine ingredients that include organic seaweed extract and Dead Sea salts. The newest algae extracts in the Arrestage 2013 line up is Chlorella Vulgaris and Chlorella Pyrenoidosa, they are both a species of fresh water green algae. The anti-aging properties of the newest offerings seem to be most effective on darker facial complexions. Ethnic consumers have long been searching for products that are effective in lightening and brightening their skin.

Arrestage Laboratories will approach marine ingredients with an eco-friendly mindset, making sure not to harm our delicate seas.

Skincare Products May Offer Initial Dramatic Results

Skincare products may offer initial dramatic results, but the risks of side effects as skin acclimates, such as redness and flakiness always occur over time. The ARRESTAGE product is designed to compensate for the body's adaptation to the active ingredients that lose their effectiveness over a period of regular application.

When women talk about aging skin, the first thing they mention is wrinkles.

As you age, your body starts producing collagen, a protein that helps keep your skin plump and elastic, more slowly, causing the outer skin to become more prone to creasing and wrinkling. Cells also tend to lose moisture faster, due to hormonal changes, so skin becomes drier and less radiant.

The challenge is to slow the collagen degradation process of the skin in all aging stages. Personalized formulating to adapt a continual effective regimen of topical products is the difference in ARRESTAGE. Specific active ingredients are selected for their ability to accelerate skin cell turnover and inhibit the DNA damage that breaks down collagen. To achieve the correct balance of results and effectiveness over time, ARRESTAGE employs a questionnaire that analyzes each person's skin type and aging profile. ARRESTAGE active enhancers are used to augment the formulas on an individual basis, after a sequence of initial compounds are selected for a specific profile.

Skin Lighteners and brighteners For Looking Younger

Everyone wants to have clear skin. Pretty and healthy skin is even toned and radiant looking. To brighten the skin and promote clarity you need to lessen the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Uneven skin tone can be a result of exposure to the sun or abnormal cellular activity. Although genetics play a big part of how your skin tone and color appear, a regimen of topical cosmeceutical and light based devices can transform your facial beauty.

Skin lighteners and skin brighteners are two different classes of skin products. The primary difference is that skin-lightening formulas contain hydroquinone, which penetrates the skin. Brighteners, on the other hand, typically do not change the structure and function of the skin. ARRESTAGE Laboratories Corporation has been successful in achieving the lightening and brightening outcomes without the potential side effects of benoquin and hydroquinone, the active ingredient in most lightening products. Botanical lighteners such as kojic acid, bearberry extract, arbutin, licorice, and retinol can boost the effectiveness of skin lighteners as a bleaching agent in the ARRESTAGE formulas.

Rather than causing the skin to visibly whiten, ARRESTAGE brightening products even out its tone, discolorations, and blotchiness, resulting in an overall brighter and smoother appearance. Even in an economic slump, people are willing to pay a premium for something that produces a visible difference in their skin. The average price for ARRESTAGE antiaging skin care products is often two to three times higher than that of a basic skin care product. When used in clinical settings, physicians and their patients express a preference for cosmeceuticals, like ARRESTAGE, as an adjunct to injectables and light-based devices. Their reasoning is hopeful at best: to maintain the effects of clinical treatments for longer and a good hedge to their investment.

Secrets of Great Skin Products is their Molecular Form

of Retinol, Niacinamide, Peptides, Vitamin C, and Hyaluronic Acids.

If your skin care products contain the right amounts of Retinol, Niacinamide, Peptides, Vitamin C, and Hyaluronic Acids for your specific skin type, you are off to the right start. Aside from having those key ingredients, most chemists will tell you that it's more about the form and functionality of those ingredients. There will always be the latest and greatest antioxidant ingredient of the month to add to the basic formulas, but most ingredients are not in the right molecular form to be absorbed optimally. Spend a little more money and purchase the purest and most specific formulated products for your individual skin type and environment. Most products take months to achieve noticeable results. The television shopping networks hawking their overnight sensational and instant result creams are mostly all hype.

If the outermost layer of the skin is improperly cleansed with a soap product, everything else you then apply will most likely become corrupted and less effective. So, start with a "soap-less" cleanser to rid the skin of impurities, debris and bacteria. Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your face. At night, wash and use a toner you like. I would recommend looking for one that is alcohol-free. Then apply a night cream, ideally containing retinol with a good antioxidant.

The T-zone of your face is usually oilier than the rest of your face. It is easy to avoid moisturizing these areas when you moisturize the rest of your face. You should also apply toner or products with salicylic acid to the T-zone without applying it to the cheeks or the dry areas of the face. The body tends to be very dry, especially the lower legs, so it's important to use a cream rather than lotion in this area.

Along with the best skin care regimen that you can afford, concentrate on improving your diet for skin and tissue health. Look for foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids such as almonds and salmon. Olive oil is also excellent for the skin. There are studies that show that Mediterranean diets and diets high in citrus fruits help keep the skin looking younger and also help against skin cancer. I would also recommend avoiding foods that are highly processed and high in refined sugar -- these are pro-inflammatory for the skin and accelerate the aging process. Avoid excess alcohol which is dehydrating to the skin.

Visit your Dermatologist before you start going for spa treatments. Have your doctor give you the okay for procedures that require protracted healing times. Peels and masks for exfoliating are all very different. Dr. Roy Shapiro, an Aesthetics expert and lecturer, recommends less aggressive treatment protocols with a greater frequency of encounters. His combination treatments of laser, phototherapy, mesotherapy and home topicals have found their way into most better Medical Spas and Salons around the world.

How to Fix Summer Sun Skin Damage

You WILL be damaging your skin if you spend some time enjoying the sun this summer. You must remember to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen often to shield your skin from the sun's harmful rays. The reality is unless you are a teenager, armed with the body's fortified, youthful ability to sustain damage without visibly exhibiting it other than a sunburn peel, you now will be experiencing dryness, irritation, brown spots, broken capillaries, or wrinkles. There are products to repair and heal this damage, unfortunately most products will only just slightly mitigate the damage and you should see an aesthetic physician or dermatologist to fully start the recovery process. To achieve facial clarity and restore the youthful appearance you want the skin to appear clear, even, and smooth, you must slough off the dead, dull skin. I recommend topicals with Alpha Hydroxy Acids to loosen the bonds between the dead cells and exfoliate them away. Products with Glycolic, Mandelic, Malic, Lactic, and Citric Acids will help you achieve a smooth, even-toned complexion. Hydroquinone lightens melasma, sun spots, and freckles. At our clinics we use the Nonablative or ablative fractional laser resurfacing that will tighten as it lightens and perfects the appearance of sun damaged skin. This type of treatment is considered very safe and effective for improving the texture, wrinkles and oftentimes even the color of photo aged skin. There is little to no down time to these treatments. Many of the Arrestage Laboratories skin care products that we recommend for our patients contain very precise doses of these active ingredients mentioned.

Sun damage or photo-aging will cause dry, dehydrated skin that appears old, tired, and wrinkled. Natural hydrators such as Jojoba Oil, Safflower Oil, and Aloe soothe the skin without leaving a greasy residue. To further soften and repair extra dry skin, look for ingredients like Shea, Cocoa, or Mango Butter. Moisture-binding ingredients like Squalane and Hyaluronic Acid plump and firm the skin from within, instantly reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Although these treatments will help to repair and renew your skin, it is always important to wear a UVA and UVB shielding sunscreen whenever you are outside. As we age and expose ourselves to the damaging outdoor rays, the sun will eventually produce Precancerous spots (rough, red patches of precancerous skin) can be removed with laser, liquid nitrogen, anti cancer creams, or better still through photodynamic therapy using Levulan or Medvixia and red light to kill precancerous lesions without the risk of a scar. These photodynamic procedures can be used on any part of the body and can improve the appearance and youthfulness of the skin. In our clinic we are a big proponent of the utilization of Photodynamic Therapy. The red wavelength and infra-red light work beneath the surface of the skin for months after the treatments to achieve favorable collagen remodeling to strengthen the tissue matrix as well as heal the visible precancerous lesions.

Enjoy the Summer. Avoid long exposure to the sun. Cover up with hats and long sleeves. Use plenty of sun block especially on your ears and nose. Visit your dermatologist for peace of mind and to catch potentially life threatening skin problem areas early.

Increasing the Sustainability in Body Contouring and Anti-aging

Many scientists are now actively researching nutrients that promote antiaging benefits. Research in this area focuses on the selection of ingredients and the understanding and control of nutrient bioavailability in plasma, skin or hair, and the demonstration of the bioefficacy of these nutrients taken orally.

THE BEST KNOWN Nutricosmetical agents:

  • Vitamin A (carotenoids) to maintain and repair skin tissue.
  • Vitamin C to reduce the damage caused by free radicals and UV exposure. Over time, free radicals can damage collagen and elastin, the fibers that support skin structure.
  • Vitamin E to lessen the skin effects of free radicals and UV exposure.
  • Probiotics to improve recovery of the skin and cellular defenses after UV exposure.

PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acids) to reduce dry, scaly skin. PUFAs play an important role in cell structure, barrier function, lipid synthesis, inflammation and immunity.

Arrestage Laboratories has begun a new R&D program that has coupled their cosmeceutical research team with expertise in nutrition research beyond foods and beverages, to nutritional supplements for skin and hair health and beauty. The premise is that the skin is not only nourished on the outside with moisturizing creams and topical solutions, but also with nutrients to nourish from the inside.

Dr. Roy Shapiro, an internationally known speaker in the Aesthetics arena, has conducted many studies on combination therapies. Shapiro is best known for his work in body sculpting and antiaging and has recently embraced the work of many in the nutricosmetics field. "It all started with my exploration of Bio-identical hormone replacement therapies and now I see the ideal combination treatment is employing those therapies with nutricosmetics as the home maintenance portion of my protocols", according to an excerpt from one of his latest lectures on successful approaches to Sustainability in Body Contouring.

The term nutricosmetics refers to nutritional supplements which can support the function and the structure of the skin. Many micronutrients have this effect. e.g. some omega-3 fatty acids, carotenes and flavonoids protect the skin from the damaging effects of Ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, which may lead to accelerated skin ageing and wrinkle formation.

Dr. Shapiro uses lasers and photodynamic therapy along with Ultrasound and RF technologies to achieve the initial outcomes of his patients, who are looking to reduce cellulite, tighten tissues as well as reduce inches from their figures. The total transformation comes over time with nutricosmetics, cosmeceuticals, and subtle lifestyle changes that is how his group boasts about the "Sustainability Factor" of their endpoints!

Is Laser Skin Resurfacing for You?

At Arrestage Clinics we have been using Lasers to treat, fine to moderate wrinkles, liver spots or age spots (solar lentigines), uneven skin tone, sun-damaged skin as well as acne or chickenpox scars.

Laser resurfacing has limitations though. By itself, it can't remove deep wrinkles or eliminate excessive or sagging skin (jowls). In addition, the effects aren't permanent because as you age, you continue to acquire expression lines, lines that result from the natural movement of your face, such as when you squint or smile. Repeated treatments may be necessary.

Laser Resurfacing is a medical procedure and there can be risks. Complications of ablative laser resurfacing can include:

  • Hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation — skin tone that turns darker or lighter than normal. It may start three to four weeks after surgery and can last several months. You may be at increased risk of hyperpigmentation if you have a darker skin tone.
  • Herpes virus infection — the virus that causes cold sores. In most cases, the herpes virus is already present but dormant in the skin; laser resurfacing can cause the virus to flare up. If you have a history of frequent or severe cold sores, shingles in or near the area of treatment, or a recent outbreak of herpes, your doctor can prescribe a medication to prevent these infections after laser surgery.

Other complications include:

  • Bacterial infection
  • Acne flares
  • Small white bumps (milia)
  • Scarring
  • Burns
  • Inflammation of the skin (dermatitis)
  • rolonged redness

Erbium laser skin resurfacing is a procedure specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face. It works ablatively removing the other layers of the skin to reveal newer, healthier, more youthful skin. The Erbium laser light works by gently vaporizing the skin layer by layer. Our most recent studies have shown that the Erbium laser best stimulates the production of collagen, creating a tightening and smoothing of the skin.

Ablative laser resurfacing involves an intense beam of light energy (laser) that is directed at the area to be treated. The laser beam destroys the outer layer of skin (epidermis). At the same time the laser heats the underlying skin (dermis), which stimulates the growth of new collagen fibers. As the wound heals, new skin forms that's smoother and tighter.

My favorite treatment for the right candidate is an in-office fractional CO2 peel. This has about one week of “downtime” where your skin is red and you really need to be home. After that you can typically wear makeup and go back to your normal routine. Your skin may stay red or pink for up to several months following laser resurfacing. In addition, your skin may be sensitive to sunlight for up to a year after the procedure, so it's important to minimize sun exposure and to use sunscreen liberally. The result is smoother, younger, healthier skin that with proper care will continue to look great for years.

You may notice an immediate difference in your skin quality and appearance. And gradually during the next six to 12 months, you'll likely see continued improvement. Although the effects of laser resurfacing can last for years, wrinkles and expression lines eventually recur as skin ages. Repeat procedures may be necessary.

Many types of lasers exist for wrinkle treatment, so talk to your doctor about your options. Newer lasers produce less chance of scarring and pigment changes, create less discomfort, and require a shorter recovery time than do older lasers. For example, nonablative (nonwounding) lasers avoid injury to the surface skin and treat the underlying layer. This technique still stimulates the production of collagen, but requires less recovery time because the upper layer of skin isn't damaged. Because these lasers are less powerful, however, they usually require multiple sessions, and it may take longer to notice the results.

For a good complement to lasers, additional firming benefits are achieved with our procedures using radiofrequency energy for tissue tightening. Currently, we are using the Asclepion Dermablate Effect system from Germany. Asclepion has been the leader in laser manufacturing for many years. The Asclepion-Dermablate Effect radio frequency procedure, if it's deemed appropriate for you, is where the results in the chin area can be dramatic.

At home, after a laser procedure use the Arrestage products that contain ingredients like niacinamide, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and hexamidine that provide skin firming. Arrestage Chin firming creams will contain retinoids, peptides, hyaluronic acid, growth factors. For facial wrinkles the Arrestage ingredients such as retinoids (retinol, retinyl propionate, and others), peptides, vitamin C, niacinamide, caffeine, and grape seed extract, marine extract, and other antioxidants offer very noticeable results over time, when used as directed by your physician or aesthetician.

Newest and Most Effective Body Sculpting "Combination Treatment"

  • Curb Hunger

  • Increase Lymph Drainage

  • Improve Circulation

  • Denature Fat Cells

  • Build Collagen

Arrestage Laboratories has created a line of body sculpting products that Dr. Roy Shapiro, a leading Aesthetic Lecturer and Treatment Innovator, has integrated into his post treatment home care regimen for his clinics. During the treatment duration of 8-9 weeks most patients have experienced a circumferential reduction of 3-5 inches. Weight loss has varied with outcomes of 11% -20%. The home care regimen protocol has kept a higher degree of patient compliance and improved the commitment of the patient's sustainability of their overall appearance

The combination therapy is Dr. Roy Shapiro's signature treatment protocol. There is no, "One size fits all" or "Swiss Army device" approach to his patient census. In body sculpting with lasting results he believes you must conquer ALL fronts that challenge a sucessful improvement in the body's complete appearance. The issues are to curb hunger, increase lymph drainage, improve circulation, denature fat cells, regulate metabolism and tighten tissue.

First he uses an ultrasonic device called the Medsculpt that the body reacts to with an inflammatory response which causes the body to naturally dispose of the damaged fat cells. Following repeated treatments you will see a significant improvement in the shape of the body.

The next component of Dr. Shapiro's treatment protocol employs a device from Asclepion, a radiofrequency device designed for tightening skin, reducing the appearance of cellulite, and causing some reduction in the fat on the body, improving its contour. It is a totally non-invasive treatment, meaning that the skin is not cut for the treatment to be performed. By stimulating the body's natural production of collagen in response to the treatment's energy, the skin looks fuller and plumper, with unwanted lines smoothed and improvement in body contour.

Dr. Shapiro uses a computerized vacuum and massage system which improves the micro-vascular circulation of the skin. Following all the periodic treatments with the various devices this micro-mechanical massage treatment improves lymphatic drainage, a necessary component of weight loss as well as to sustain outcomes.

There are two different tools that he uses to perform his much discussed Acoustic Wave Therapy, another modality of this combination therapy protocol that Dr. Shapiro has perfected; the planar applicator, and the radial pressure applicator. The planar applicator uses an electromagnetic process that results in a high energy pressure wave with a relatively short duration. This process will break up fibrous matter and stimulate the production of collagen. The entire treatment is nearly painless.

The radial pressure applicator uses an air chamber and pellet to generate a pressure wave. This wave works more slowly and patients feel the vibration during the treatment. This is the tool that has also been used to treat pain in some patients because it can stimulate the nerves and increase circulation. In some cases, muscle tone is also improved.

The curbing of hunger comes from implementing the hCG Weight Loss Protocol combines a very low calorie diet with a human Chorionic Gonadotrophine (hCG) hormone topical cream, injection or oral dosing plus other medically-prescribed supplements. hCG is a hormone that is naturally produced in the body, and allows it to tap into and release stored fat reserves.

As you start on the low calorie protocol and take your hCG and supplements, several things happen: First, the hypothalamus gland is stimulated to release abnormal fat deposits in problem areas (hips, thighs, buttocks, waist, stomach, upper arms, etc.) at an accelerated rate. It will not touch the so-called "structural fat" in the muscles and which protect the organs.

This stored fat, which is released into the body, provides 2,000 to 3,500 calories for fuel/energy. That's why after the first few days you should not be hungry and your energy levels should start to increase. In addition to the massive stored fat that is being released, your fat cells are also releasing stored nutrients.

Finally, Dr. Shapiro has long been an advocate of Photodynamic Therapy. In his efforts to enliven the tissue and improve collagen production he finishes all treatment visits with exposure to 660nm diode illumiMED (by PhotoActif) a red light wavelength used with Arrestage Laboratories topical solutions, serums and creams. The diode therapy will continue to have an influence on the tissue for months after the patient has completed their treatment.

Unintended Consequences of Diet and Weight Loss Programs

Bad Effect on skin?

It's spring and "hope springs eternal"! - A medically supervised weight loss program or a fad diet may be your ticket to the "body beautiful" image to show off come summer? There are unintended consequences to dieting that everyone should be aware of. When you get down to your weight goal you may have lost so much that you have loose skin. Another side effect of dieting can be skin problems affecting your facial complexion as well as the appearance of cellulite on your thighs and buttocks.

During the first few weeks of successful dieting it is very common for acne breakouts that may occur for the first time, or an acne condition that worsens when you begin a new eating plan. Dieting is stressful to the body. When faced with a lack of nutrients, the body is stressed, a cascade of hormonal activity takes place, some of which can influence our skin. A natural healthy response by the body when dieting is the diversion of energy from the skin and sending it to the internal organs. This leaves skin cells without the energy they need to do what they need to do.

When weight loss results in a significant reduction of subcutaneous fat directly beneath the skin, that skin becomes thin and fragile. While few studies exist regarding skin and dieting, many experts believe skin is quite sensitive to nutrition, which can change it's metabolism. The harsh or dramatic effects are only temporary and can be lessened with home care skin treatment and proper hydration.

When finally your system adjusts to your new, healthier food intake, and you emotionally accept dieting as a positive force in your life, stress levels generally go down and your skin will calm down as well. Worrying about your breakouts and cellulite will only make things worse. You must be proactively maintaining an emotional balance and curb your expectations, because good and long lasting results take time.

If you're over 30 when you start to lose weight, you are facing the beginning of the decline in collagen production that helps maintain the firmness and tone of your skin and tissue. Fat actually helps keep skin taut. When you lose weight fast you rapidly will begin to lose that underlying support that new collagen production provides, our skin may react by looking looser and possibly more wrinkled. A slimmer body does not have to mean a more lined face, but you need to help things along by using the right products for your particular skin type..

At Arrestage Laboratories we recommend keeping skin clean, wear as little makeup as possible, and try drying solution containing either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. First, make sure you lose weight slowly. This gives your skin time to adjust to the loss, and that may reduce some of the droops and drops. Firming creams are a must. Don't wait until lines and wrinkles appear to start using them.

Dr. Shapiro recommends, "As soon as you begin your diet, begin using firming creams on your face, and keep on using them while you're losing weight and you will definitely see a positive result," He says that the two best skin firming ingredients to look for are vitamin C and copper peptides. Both have been Dermatologically formulated to stimulate collagen production. "There are many available creams and lotions that we have tried and they all have some benefit. The Arrestage Regimen that we selected not only contains the L-ascorbic form of vitamin C, but it's stabilized and offers a delivery system that can drive it down into the skin," says Dr. Shapiro.

"Arrestage Laboratories employs one of the most effective delivery systems by creating liposomes. These are tiny spheres that are used to encapsulate ingredients (like vitamin C) that on their own are too large to get into the deepest layers of the skin. Arrestage has perfected this liposome's to penetrate skin layers, they enable the vitamin C and their other active ingredients to reach the cells where collagen is produced. Our hcG Diets and Cellulite treatment protocols incorporate the Arrestage Soy products that can plump the skin, which makes it look smooth", assures Shapiro.

More and more medically supervised weight loss programs advocate special supplements. Fish oil and Omega 3 and other vital vitamin products round out a healthy dieting regimen. Make sure that you're drinking enough fluid can help offset some dry skin problems. If you were used to drinking lots of soda and juice every day, and suddenly cut down, you may find that you aren't getting as much liquids as your body requires, and that can result in dry skin. The solution here is the simplest of all: Drink more water..

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! You need to moisturize externally and internally. Do not stress out and use sunscreen or sun block if you are spending a prolonged time enjoying the outdoors.
